F-4S ECM Antennas

Part of the F-4S modification was the addition of four small ECM antennas on the underside of the airplane. I took pictures of the ones on the QF-4S BuNo 153821 at the Veterans Memorial Air Park at Meacham Field, Fort Worth, TX and modified a sketch that I found on line to match them.

Note that no two are alike.

  1. Good post! The four antenna fairings this brings attention to appear to have been part of the ALQ-126 system, along with the better known antennas on the upper intakes. Along with the F-4S, they appear to be installed on the F-4N, F-4J and RF-4B by the mid, late 70s. I haven't seen them on F-4J(UK) even though most of those airframes had the upper intake antennas. The two port antennas seem to have their shapes carried over from Project Shoehorn during the Vietnam era, while the starboard antennas changed.
